Day of Surgery

  • Do not eat or drink anything after midnight the night before your surgery unless otherwise instructed by the pre-op nurse.  If you do, your surgery may need to be rescheduled.
  • Notify your surgeon if there are any changes in your physical health, such as illness, cold, fever, rash or infection.
  • Wear loose fitting, comfortable, casual clothing that can be folded for storage.  You will be given a gown and a pair of slippers to wear for surgery.
  • If you wear contact lenses, bring your lens container.  If you wear glasses, bring your eyeglass case.
  • Remove any dentures prior to surgery, they will be returned to you in the recovery room.  Bring your denture cup.
  • You will be asked to sign a consent form before you take any medication.  A parent or guardian must sign for a minor.
  • Do not wear nail polish, make-up, earrings, body rings or jewelry to surgery.  Leave all valuables at home.
  • Limit the number of persons accompanying you to one or two.  If you are accompanying a child and have other children, please make child care arrangements for the time you will be at the Center.
  • For your safety, you must have a responsible adult to drive you from the Center.  If you cannot find someone, your surgery may be rescheduled.
  • If your physician decides you require further care, you may need to be admitted to an inpatient hospital.  Please do not overlook this possibility, however slight, when making arrangements.
